Dancing Torso Building
TWISTING    FACADE
-Facade follows Views-
Private
Year : 2021
Type : Commercial
Location : Deagu, Korea
Design Team :
Woo Hyoung Lee, Hyung Il Joo, Seon Hye Jeon
Collaboration with JKang Architects

This building is located on a narrow site in the city center where the south-facing view can be maximized. As a commercial building in a residential area, it is planned to have 4 floors above ground and basement, and includes a cafe on the basement and 1st floor, rental on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and personal space for the owner on the 4th floor. As it has a small area and is adjacent to the existing house in the north, and has legal restrictions on the direct north-south line, the main building space was concentrated on the southern portion of the site, and a linear staircase going back to the rear of the building was planned as the main movement line, not a separate vertical staircase room. By setting the various directions of the view for each floor of the building and reflecting it on the axis to which the corresponding face of the volume is directed, the main building facade is twisted in various directions for each floor, thereby suggesting the characteristics of the building facade.
