UAARL_Urban Alternative Architecture Research Lab is a research-based architectural design lab within Namseoul University, Department of Architecture, lead by Prof. Woo Hyoung Lee. We are interested in Architectural Design & Theory with Urban Perspectives. Especially Program based Architectural Design for Differentiated Configuration & Rhino based Evidence Design for Optimization. In parallel with design works, we focus on theoretical researches on Optimization Issues in Architecture, Urban Transformation & Development with Regenerative Perspective.
To give you a brief introduction of Prof. Woo Hyoung Lee, he has been teaching at Namseoul University, and running UAARL since year 2009 and he is a registered architect in NY and LEED accredited professional. He graduated from Pratt Institute for master program at 2000, Kyungpook National University for bachelor at 1998. After graduation, He worked with many notable design firms in NYC such as Fxfowle Architects, Rafael Vinoly Architects as a project designer for many years. Since he has returned to Korea for entering academia with professorship, He is teaching, researching and doing his own architectural practice with UAARL.
UAARL_도시대안건축연구소는 남서울대학교 건축학과 소속의 연구기반 건축디자인 연구소이며, 이우형교수를 중심으로 도시적 관점의 건축설계 및 이론에 대한 연구를 진행하고 있다. 특히 프로그램 기반의 차별화된 건축구성 및 라이노 기반 에비던스 디자인을 통한 최적화 건축을 주요 연구주제로 가진다. 연구소는 건축디자인 작업과 병행하여 최적화 건축디자인, 재생적 관점의 도시변화 및 개발에 대한 이론적 연구를 함께 진행한다.
이우형 교수는 2009년부터 남서울대학교 건축학과에서 재직하며 UAARL_도시대안건축연구소를 운영한다. 프랫 인스티튜트, 경북대학교를 졸업하였으며, 뉴욕에 위치한 Fxfowle Architects, Rafael Vinoly Architects 등 여러 유명 건축설계사무소에서 다년간 근무한 미국 뉴욕주 건축사, 미국친환경인증사이다.
