Community Platform
THE   OUTER   &   INNER   SKIN
-Contextual Volume Configuration by Carving out White Cube-
Competition, Built
Year : 2021
Type : Community
Location : Gumi, Korea
Design Team :
Woo Hyoung Lee, Sang Pil Yun, Seon Hye Jeon, Min Joo Lee
Collaboration with Somyung Architects, Design-build HJ Architects

This design includes community and support facilities as part of the local urban regeneration project. Targeting the site surrounded by adjacent buildings, it consists of a narrow abutment that is used as an entry point and a rear part where the main building can be located. In order to solve the poor parking space in the area, most of the ground surface should be allocated to the parking lot in order to satisfy the number of parking spaces required by the design requirements. To this end, a community platform using a stepped plaza was proposed, and a community yard that utilizes the site three-dimensionally was proposed. Based on this, community-related programs were placed in the southeast and support programs were placed in the east and west directions. In this context, the entire building was derived by setting a white cube optimized for site conditions as the main volume, carving the main volume out to respond to context and design requirements, and setting the exposed surface by carving as a red secondary surface.
